Ton's Travel – Your Friendy Guide to Laos

Hi, I am Ton

My name is actually Southung Saechao, but Ton is much easier, so that's what everybody call me – and you can, too!

I belong to a tribe called Iu Mien, with roots in China. My own family roots are in Chinese Tibet. Our history in China is long and colorful, with myths dating back two thousand years. Panhu, a dog-warrior, is said to be our forefather. Our tribe lived in the woods and mountains, and often clashed with Chinese emperors through the centuries.

Eventually, many Iu Miens emigrated to Vietnam and then on to Thailand and Laos in the 17th century, where the soil was rich and fish plentiful in the rivers. The tropical forests also had all kinds of wild animals for the Iu Mien to hunt, as well as fruits to collect.

In modern times, the Vietnam war spread to Laos, and created much suffering, for my people also. Today, there are diasporas of Iu Mien in many countries, among them Vietnam, Thailand, China and USA. You can read more about our history here.

Myself, I feel like a local. Laos is a colorful community of 50 tribes speaking four languages, and I live in the historical city of Luang Prabang, which has much to offer visitors. I will be happy to show you around.

I can also arrange special tours for you – other than those described on this web site. Every visitor will have personal wishes and will experience Laos in their own special way. Contact me at at southungsaechao99[att]gmail.com, and we can work out arrangements that will suit you.
